About IN the Parks
IN the Parks podcast blends interviews and narration to draw out the major stories and themes of our state. Whether at a state park or historic site, examining a native plant or architecture, learning about the Monon or an Indiana artist, my goal is to show Indiana’s beauty, history, and impact.
Season 1: Each episode provides an overview of the park’s features while diving deeper into the people and communities that shape it. I’ve interviewed over a hundred people who are invested in our state parks, from property managers and interpretive naturalists to volunteers and visitors. Indiana DNR has been supportive and engaged with the podcast since its creation. We share a love for nature and want to see more people in the parks!
Season 2: I’m taking a quick field trip away from Indiana to the Mighty 5, Utah’s national parks. My entire family headed west and learned a lot on our trip!
Season 3: I’m working with the Indiana State Museum to profile their historic sites. So many are near Indiana State Parks and both reveal the power of place. I’m excited to profile these important sites across Indiana.
About the Podcaster
I’m Allison, an English teacher with a marketing background who was born and raised in Indianapolis. I combined my life-long love of storytelling with my various professional experiences to create a podcast that celebrates Indiana. I love highlighting the people and places that shape a community. If I can get middle schoolers interested in poetry, then hopefully I can get you excited to discover Indiana’s history!
